| Breaking News:
The week's second snowstorm could cover the region with twice as much snow as Tuesday's snowfall. The National Weather Service predicted four to six inches of snow would fall north of Dallas before midnight Thursday, causing hazardous road conditions, wrecks and city, school and county department closures all afternoon. In fact, the Melissa ISD decided to open school two hours late on Friday.Greg Patrick, a meteorologist with the NWS office in Fort Worth, said such heavy snow accumulation for the area is very unusual."It's really something," Patrick said. "It's kind of gotten into an active pattern where we've had some strong weather systems that typically move north of Oklahoma and have been moving from January and February moving across Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. Then this past week, this will be the second major storm system that's moved across North Texas."Patrick said a collection of colder air created the heavy snowfall."It basically has to do with where the cold air sets up, where the cold air and warm, moist air sets up," Patrick said.
When Did Cam’ron Become The “Voice of Hip-Hop?”
Ben Chavis (Who should change from Dr. to Rev. with his preaching), Kevin Liles (Who cares about your rise from intern to President? Thats not the issue) and Common (Even he had his misses). Now, 60 Minutes did a profile on the Stop Snitching epidemic which has been custom in inner-city neighborhoods for decades, but has exploded in recent years with its commercialization thru song and clothing. Who did 60 Minutes look for to talk about Stop Snitching? None other than the Albert Einstein of Hip-Hop, Camron. Whatever happened to publicists? I guess Jim Jones is preparing Killa for interviews. If you thought theres a witch hunt against Hip-Hop, your probably right? But in defense of the so-called art and poets like Russ would say are a bunch of fools. The worst legal defense team you can have.

World's finest tech sites immortalised
They may have transformed man's understanding of the universe but the monumental impact of the world's first large radio telescope and the planet's largest particle physics lab has never been fully recognised. Now both Jodrell Bank and Cern are among the technological landmarks that could be immortalised alongside the pyramids of Egypt and Taj Mahal on Unesco's World Heritage Site (WHS) list. The UK National Commission for Unesco and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport are hosting a three-day workshop to set the framework for creating future World Heritage Sites that mark advances in science and technology. Experts on the history of science and world heritage from 15 countries are taking part in the London-based sessions to create the framework, which is expected to stimulate a surge in the number of science and technology heritage sites across the world.
True to his 'roots,' true to his 'grooves'
His parents played gospel music in their church and his uncle headed a local R&B band, the Blue Notes. He started playing saxophone at 8, and soon formed the Junior Blue Notes with his younger brother Melvin on drums and older bro Kellis on trombone. By the time he was in the sixth grade, the band was performing between sets at the Blue Note's gigs. By the time he graduated from college with a degree in music, he had perfected his hard-driving sound, a gritty, insistent, rhythmic incantation that he perfected with Melvin. "His second year, I talked him into doing the freshman talent show, just drums and saxophone, no guitar or piano," Parker recalled. "We used to fool around like that at home, this Africa kind of sound, where I'd kind of scat to change the tempo. We had that connection.

Cis' blog roundup - Friday
Over the course of 2 1/2-plus years of running this blog, I should get some credit for understanding how to run this blog while making it fun. I've tried drafting rules from time to time. But most of those attempts have gone by the way side. The ones Blogmeister Ken posted earlier this week are about as dead-on and simple as it gets: - No personal attacks or inflammatory posts. - No copyright violations. - No libel. And, if it isn't obvious... - No porn. I'd probably put an asterisk behind "or inflammatory posts" because some of you guys are so poisoned toward others that you believe anything they post is "inflammatory." Also, some of you believe that any dissing of your favorite political party or ideology is a personal attack. When all else fails, I fall back on the bottom-line rule here: Dave's blog, Dave's rules.

Two 'Vagina' productions raise awareness, amuse
This time of year, dreams of love and talk of fairy-tale romance fill the frigid air. But some women around town will be taking a more anatomic approach to this weekend: They'll be talking about their vaginas. Sponsored by the Black Caucus, a group of female students will present The Vagina Monologues at 8 tonight, Friday and Saturday in Schwab Auditorium. A group of State College women will also perform the monologues at 7 p.m. Sunday at the State Theatre, 130 W. College Ave. Students at Penn State have performed The Vagina Monologues for the past nine years on campus, but this will be the first year the performance will take place downtown. Local resident Valerie Jarrett will be producing the downtown performance. She said she first participated in the performance in 2004 in Colorado and has wanted to produce it here ever since she moved to State College.

Daily Blabber Celebrity Gossip Blog from iVillage Entertainment
I know you thought Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds got married last weekend, in a posh ceremony on a island off Bora Bora, but you were mistaken. Their nups may have been fancy and fabulous -- but they weren't legal. In the Unites States, an international wedding is only recognized if the ceremony adheres to local laws in the country it takes place. Bora Bora is under French law, which stipulates a wedding is valid only if the couple has been in the territory for 30 days (they hadn't) or if they are married in a town hall by a mayor (they weren't). Tracey's rep said that the couple's island party "was a ceremony to bind Eddie and Tracey spiritually" and that they would make it legal when they got back home. I think this is great news for Tracey -- she still has a chance to change her mind and run for the hills.
