It is time for our state legislators to back off on the attack on the initiative process.http://www.chronline.com/storyviews.php?subaction=showfull&id=1201289066&archive=&start_from=&ucat=13&SEATTLE TIMES EDITORIAL BOARD, Thursday, January 24, 2008, Another attack on initiative rights: This sounds like it is protecting the public, but it is not. There is no great problem of fraudulent signatures. The Office of the Secretary of State checks signatures, and if the signatures are not valid, it doesn't count them. No measure has gotten onto the ballot by the use of phony names. Why make the citizen who signed the petition the one to lose his rights because of something the signature gatherer did years before? These bills are not aimed at making democracy better. They are aimed at infecting it with rigmarole and risk, and thereby restricting it, so that certain measures never reach the ballot.
Saturday afternoon Apple links, Guitar Hero edition
Sadly, the links this week won't feature any ridiculous Internet memes, but hopefully you'll be so excited that I'm back to doing the links that you won't miss them. Without further ado, here are all of Apple inks that we couldn't coerce into other posts: If you rock at Guitar Hero III, developer Aspyr is giving you a chance to show off your skills, and will be holding a series of Guitar Hero III tournaments at Apple Stores across the country. Tournaments will be held in San Francisco, Chicago, and New York, as well as a bunch of other cities, so check the website of your local store for details. Wireless memory card Eye-Fi received a software update this week. The update includes a new "Smart Boost" feature, which will upload photos to the Web via your computer, allowing you to take advantage of Wi-Fi speeds to get photos off of your camera.
Thompson bemoans threadbare squad
Devizes Town manager Paul Thompson has bemoaned his threadbare squad ahead of a hectic month which could make or break their season. The Nursteed Road outfit have ten games in the next 30 days and Thompson will be without Steve Campbell, Josh Digby and the suspended Dan Sloan for Saturday's match at Bishop Sutton. They then travel to Calne Town on Tuesday for their rearranged Wiltshire Senior Cup quarter-final tie before hosting the Lilywhites in the Toolstation League Premier Division next Saturday. Games against Welton, Chard, Corsham, Truro, Odd Down, Brislington and Bitton follow but Thompson won't be able to rotate his side. "We are missing key players and we haven't got the strength in depth in our reserves," he said. "We have got some good future youngsters but they are not ready quite yet.

Wars Dwarf Warming in US Budget
I strongly support the preservation of hydrocarbon polymers (oil)for polymerization, not to burn in vehicles! We need oil for synthetics of all sorts and yet we destroy this unreplaceable resource for energy. This is truly stupid. Believing this does not mean I have to believe whatever I am told. I can still think. .

McCain and Obama turn fire on each other
Hillary's attacks against Obama only make her look angry. People are sick of the Clinton's, their antics, their deals, and their arrogance in assuming the presidency should go to the former First Lady who has only served a few years in the Senate and while there, never lead any opposition to Bush's disastrous foreign policies. Had Clinton shown any leadership in the Senate, had she not botched the health care issues Bill threw to her in the first year of his presidency, she might be a credible candidate even though she has no real record of public service and certainly nothing like 35 years as she claims. But HIllary's judgement has always been bad. America needs positive leadership. .
