The third annual “Edible Car Contest" will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. Families are encouraged to come, build an edible car, race it down the track and see which car travels the farthest. A variety of edible products will be provided but if you have a great idea, it is recommended that you bring it, as there is no guarantee we will think of the same thing. The car must be built and have moving parts. Last year, we received a very nice donation to create a lecture series encouraging the community to make informed decisions about their lives, their community and their world on progressive topics. To kickoff the series we have scheduled a debate among the three main DFL candidates for United States Senate, Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer, Mike Ciresi, and Al Franken. Mark your calendars now for Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.

Sources: Dallas Cowboys consider Pacman Jones

On Thursday, Jones again said he wants to play for the Cowboys, on an Atlanta radio station.

"I just have to do what I have to do to get back on the field," he said. "Hopefully it won't be long, and hopefully it will be a couple of more months. I would love to play for the Cowboys, America's Team."

If the Cowboys acquire Jones, he would join Pro Bowl cornerback Terence Newman and Anthony Henry, who led the team with six interceptions in 2007. Jones would also be a leading candidate to return punts.

In 2006, he averaged 12.9 yards per return with three touchdowns.

The Cowboys have signed players with troubled pasts before. The team signed nose tackle Tank Johnson last season after he served a suspension for violations of the NFL conduct policy.

Poll puts Zapatero ahead (but don't tell the Spanish)

In private though, Socialist Party officials worry that the high rate of immigration in the past few years could cost it votes on Sunday. Spain’s once-dwindling population has jumped from 40 million to 45 million since 2000, boosting the economy but creating tensions in working-class, urban areas, where many immigrants have settled.

The economy is another source of worry for strategists. Unemployment figures showed that 53,000 Spaniards lost their jobs in February, taking the unemployment rate to 8.6 per cent. The manufacturing sector is also at its weakest in more than six years.

Mr Zapatero swept to power unexpectedly four years ago on a wave of public anger over the previous Government’s handling of the Madrid train bombings, which killed 191 people and injured more than 1,800.

Ghosts in the machine

I mean, remember the golden age when sports stories used to not be about business all the time? Still, to continue, Reznor offered nine of his 36 new instrumental tracks for free, and for a mere $5 you can download them all. Five more dollars and you get a hard copy of the album sent to your home in a few months ... and there was even an extra-limited-edition of 2,500 for $300 that sold out a couple days ago. That's $750,000, just like that.

I drove in for the $5 route in the midst of all nin.com's crashing servers, missed my "one chance," fired off an e-mail to the help desk and ended up having to separately torrent the entire album off piratebay.org online, happy that ol' Rez gets a little scratch anyway. Obviously, the system needs some tweaking. But it was the first time I happily paid for, in essence, nothing.

Forging A Merger -- Or Not

More than two weeks after the Chinalco news broke, markets are still obsessing about the Chinese connection.

The latest to weigh in on this subject is Stratfor, which provides strategic intelligence on global business, economic, security and geopolitical affairs. The U.S. intelligence firm says Chinalco would consider bidding for a majority stake in Rio Tinto if another company attempted a takeover.

Stratfor claims it has spoken with a source 'close to the Australian government' who says Chinalco will block any competing bid. "Beijing appears set on blocking an attempt by the world's largest mining company, Australia's BHP Billiton, to swallow up Rio Tinto, a move that would create a mining goliath worth nearly $350 billion," Stratfor said in a briefing. "Considering that domestic energy security tops the Chinese government's agenda, it is a given that Beijing is looking to carve out a niche in the world's key resource sectors using state-owned energy companies."

It's unclear exactly how much of a stake the Chinalco-Alcoa consortium would be willing to buy and at what price though the highest stake rumored until now has been up to 20 percent.

Purdue irritates best fans

Kelly Rostine and her Paint Crew friends were looking forward to a five-day camping/tailgating experience at Mackey Arena.

With Purdue's 24th-ranked men's basketball team set to play tonight at No. 8 Wisconsin -- then hosting 11th-ranked Michigan State on Tuesday -- the student section, named for coach Matt Painter, can't wait.

But about 40 Paint Crew members camped Friday afternoon outside Mackey were told by university officials that they may not spend the weekend at the arena.

"They are not letting the students support the team," said Rostine, 21, a senior from Carol Stream, Ill. "If they are trying to kick us out for safety reasons, then what is the difference between us sitting (in the cold) for a football game or sitting outside for any other sporting event?

"All we want to do is support our team.

Rackspace backtracks over virtualisation

Global hosting company Rackspace has performed a volte-face on its virtualisation position, and will be hosting virtual servers after all. It controversially said in August 2007 that virtualisation was not yet ready for the big time and wouldn't save money.
