Australia Continues Down The Slippery Slope Of Censorship... 'For The ...
Instead, the police could simply tell ISPs they had to block any site that the police feel potentially "encourages, incites or induces," "facilitate(s)" or "has, or is likely to have, the effect of facilitating" a crime. A fairly broad description. That's why it's a bit weird to see the fuss being kicked up over the latest policy to force all ISPs to put in place mandatory filters that can only be surpassed by officially opting-out (the equivalent of making someone go register to get a "porn license." There really isn't that much new or different here, but it does have the standard politician pandering about how this is all to "protect the children." What's most bothersome about this story, however, is the response from politicians to those who oppose this kind of censorship: "If people equate freedom of speech with watching child pornography, then the Rudd-Labor Government is going to disagree." That's not just misleading and wrong, it's obnoxiously incorrect.

Yao's injury raises questions for Rockets' future
But the latest Yao setback may portend even worse karma for the future. For the record, this makes the third injury-muted season in a row for the sixth-year star from China. Last season, Yao managed to join the Rockets for only 48 games, seven less than he played in during the 2005-06 campaign. So, after missing just two games in his first three seasons, the No. 1 franchise player appears to be unreasonably brittle. And this is just rotten news for the Rockets because their No. 2 franchise player is just as physically shaky. .

Woman returns $15,000 found in road
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - Linda Harwood seems to have a knack for finding lost cash. She was driving on Route 3 in Plattsburgh, New York, earlier this week when she spotted a bag in the middle of the road. It was a bank-deposit bag containing $15,000 in cash. She turned the bag in to Plattsburgh police, who tracked down the bank and the money's owners, a local scrap metal business. An employee says she believes she placed the bag on top of her car during a stop at a local hardware store and drove off with the bag still on the roof. Harwood says returning the money was simply the right thing to do. She says a few years ago she found a pocketbook filled with money in a parking lot. Harwood mailed it back to Vermont woman who had lost it. ©2008 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
