Hospital scores well in on the spot inspection
The Healthcare Commission team arrived for the inspection on January 31. The hospital received their draft report on February 11. The hospital was being tested on its infection control techniques, its cleanliness and providing isolation facilities. The full results have not been released as they are still subject to the potential of change, said head of nursing Kathryn Holbourn at the meeting. However the hospital did meet all duties except for its auditing programme. But this had already been identified and is part of the plan for 2008/09, said Mrs Holbourn. 3:54pm today Print  Email this Comment .b_box { border: 1px solid #D7D7D7; background-color: #EEEEEE; color: #000000; padding: 5px; width: 307px; } .b_box img { border: 1px solid #D7D7D7; padding: 5px; background-color: #ffffff; } .b_box a, .b_box a:visited .b_box a:active { color: #000000 !important; } .b_box a:hover { color: #FF0000 !important; } .msg_div { padding: 0px; width: 307px; clear: left; } .entry { border-left: 1px solid #D7D7D7; border-right: 1px solid #D7D7D7; padding: 5px; width: 307px; } .entry2 { border-left: 1px solid #D7D7D7; border-right: 1px solid #D7D7D7; padding: 5px; min-height: 80px; } .b_entry { border-left: 1px solid #D7D7D7; border-right: 1px solid #D7D7D7; border-bottom: 1px solid #D7D7D7; padding: 5px; width: 307px; } fieldset { margin-top: 10px; border: 1px solid #D7D7D7; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; padding: 0px; } legend { padding: 2px 6px; color: #000000; background: #EEEEEE; border: 1px solid #D7D7D7; font-weight: bold; margin-left: 10px; } .headcell { text-align: center; color: #000000; background: #EEEEEE; border-bottom: 1px solid #D7D7D7; } .headcell a:link, .headcell a:visited, .headcell a:active { color: #000000; } .headcell a:hover { color: #FF0000; } .caltab { border: 1px solid #D7D7D7; margin-top: 5px; } .year_daycell { text-decoration: underline; text-align: center; } .year_fullcell { background: #EEEEEE; border: 1px solid #D7D7D7; } blockquote { border: 2px outset #D7D7D7; } .buttonclass { background: #EEEEEE; color: #000000; } .
Cape May
It did, with the help of grand, colorful Victorians. Residents and business owners (realizing that historical interest might draw people back to Cape May) began restoring their Victorian-style homes and buildings with zeal. In 1976, Cape May was declared a National Historic Landmark. The visitors poured in. .
Candidates reveal differences at forum
The town candidates were asked to give two-minute response to such questions as: How would you address violence in Taos? How would you make Taos a sustainable community? Did you agree with term limits? How would you improve tourism? How would you increase lodger’s tax revenue? What would you do to stop the bickering on the town council?Incumbent Councilors Erlinda Gonzales and Melitón Struck opposed term limits, but the remaining candidates all suggested councilors be limited to two four-year terms.Candidate Amy Quintana, however, pointed out that a change in state law might be required to allow term limits for councilors.Eugene Sánchez vowed that he would work with legislators to change the law.But the candidates for two open seats in the March 4 election revealed more differences in their direct response to comments from their challengers.Gonzales and Struck expressed their objection to the proposed SmartCode, which would provide a Master Plan to guide the town’s land use regulations.Struck said the proposed SmartCode would not protect the historic district in Taos and Gonzales said she opposed the recommendation in the preliminary plan allowing three-story buildings in the downtown area. The other candidates saw the SmartCode as a way to resolve conflicts in the town’s land use ordinances and Amy Quintana pointed to the failure of the town manager to fill the planning director position for more than a year as an obstruction to the town’s ability to plan for the future, especially in regard to approving the SmartCode.Julia Valerma said the SmartCode encompasses most the Vision 20/20 plan touted by Struck and Gonzales over the SmartCode, but said it would define the current and immediate needs of the community. The Vision 20/20 Plan, which was created by extensive grassroots input in 1999, was never formally adopted by the town council.
Whalers threaten to take activists to Japan
It is unlikely that the Japanese govt is interested in any economic benefits that whaling brings (although the so called "institute of cetacean research" is). Instead, the Japanese government is extremely concerned that if it loses the right to whale in international waters, a precedent will be set that could lead to it's very economically important overexploitation of tuna and other fisheries being banned. Bill Conlin: Phillies' Utley, Howard, Rollins among best all-time at ...
CLEARWATER, Fla. - In late April 2002, the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter were in their tightest alignment of about a 180-year period. By early May, Venus, Saturn and Mars were in as straight a rank as a celestial color guard. There were few hints during those evenings when thousands of amateur astronomers locked their telescopes on the western sky that the Phillies were headed for a similar alignment of stars five seasons down the baseball road. As the turbulent 2002 season entered its second month, shortstop and leadoff hitter Jimmy Rollins was in his second season. He would hit a disappointing .245 with an on-base percentage of .306 that many baseball men deemed unacceptable. He walked just 54 times and scored what so far is a career-low 82 runs. But J-Roll was the least of GM Ed Wade and manager Larry Bowa's problems.
Wikia Search to offer first peek next week
Wikia Search, a community-driven search engine, will get its first public preview on Monday, according to co-founder Jimmy Wales. In an e-mail sent to the Wikia Search mailing list on December 24, Wales wrote that he aims to make the initial version of the search tool available in alpha form. "We want to run over the system with help from people to complain about what is broken," he wrote. Wikia Search, which aims to allow people to contribute to how pages are ranked and to edit search results, will have open-source search algorithms and application program interfaces. The search platform includes the Grub search project, acquired by Wikia in July, which employs user-donated distributed processing power to crawl the Web. Wales, who also co-founded user-generated online encyclopedia Wikipedia, hopes Wikia Search will eventually rival other search companies by making the way in which search results are arrived at more "transparent." "The desire to collaborate and support a transparent and open platform for search is clearly deeply exciting to both open source and businesses," Wales said in a statement in July.
