Brucie enjoys birthday in style
Veteran entertainer Bruce Forsyth has said he has no plans to retire as he celebrates his 80th birthday. "If I look as though I'm past it, I'll know it," he said at the London hotel where he will later host a star-studded dinner with 280 guests. Flanked by two beauty queens, he also hit back at claims he is "doddery" and too old to host Strictly Come Dancing. "Senile, yes, but not doddery," joked the former Generation Game host, who has been a star for 50 years. "You try to do live TV for two hours on a Saturday night without mistakes," he added. .

So you got Drudged? Did you make any money?
A tornado or hurricane rips through your town. Or a crazed gunman opens fire at a nearby school or shopping center. Or an Interstate highway bridge collapses.Whatever, the news in your backyard can suddenly become the focus of public attention all over the nation and world – and the doorway to the big news could be your online newspaper. And for 24 to 48 hours your Web site will become one of the busiest news sites in the world. Your page traffic might increase 10-, 20- or even 100-fold.Sounds wonderful, right? Not necessarily. Some online newspapers, such as the Omaha World-Herald during a recent mall shooting, can’t handle the traffic and suffer embarrassment. But even if all goes well technically, what’s the business proposition for the newspaper that provides the news coverage to the world?"How to monetize windfall Internet traffic" was the subject of a session at the NAA’s annual Marketing conference in late February."Everything happens so fast," said Al Gibes of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, "that there’s no real way to sell more advertising.

Britney Spears Reportedly Runs Red Light; Plus Weezer, Chamillionaire ...
Britney Spears fans must be asking themselves why the singer risks getting behind the wheel anymore. According to a video posted on TMZ.com, the singer blew through a red light and made an illegal turn against oncoming traffic, with her two sons in the backseat of her Mercedes as she was driving in Los Angeles on Thursday. The footage also apparently shows Spears' court-appointed monitor ducking in the passenger seat. The video came to light following Thursday's emergency hearing in her child-custody dispute with Kevin Federline, her ex-husband. Federline's lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan hadn't seen the footage by the time the hearing commenced, and there's no word yet if this will affect his motion to prevent Spears from driving with her kids. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told MTV News on Friday that authorities weren't planning to cite Spears with any traffic violations because they hadn't been made aware of any unsafe left turns.
Court Questions Patent Damages Against Microsoft For Guatemalan Patent ...
Microsoft has been fighting for years against a Guatemalan patent holder, Carlos Amado, who claims to hold a patent on the concept of linking a database to a spreadsheet. The patent itself has been thoroughly debunked. Even the patent itself admits that it's merely taken a bunch of concepts that were widely used before and combining them -- which is exactly the type of thing that the Supreme Court has said should not be patentable. Microsoft has appealed the ruling, but the Supreme Court turned it down. However, it then appealed the amount of damages, and the appeals court has now thrown out the lower court's damages based on the fact that it appeared to pick the damages number out of thin air. It seems likely that Microsoft will still have to pay damages for infringement (though, the court also admits that new Supreme Court rulings may impact the amount as well), but the lower court is going to at least have to justify how much Microsoft needs to pay Amado for basically putting such an obvious idea on paper and filing a patent.
Brilliant scientist or blasphemous rebel?
For many of us, the birthday of evolutionist Charles Darwin, author of "Origin of Species," comes and goes, and we never notice. But for those who appreciate the great contribution that Darwin made to science, his birthday often is celebrated with a series of events."There is an internationally coordinated celebration that is worldwide," says Dr. Robert Mucci, associate professor and program director of Indiana University Northwest's Anthropology Program.Indeed, Darwin Day has its own Web site (www.darwinday.org) dedicated to the celebrations of science and humanity that are held on or around Feb. 12, which is the day Darwin was born 199 years ago. Interestingly, another great man was born that day a continent away -- Abraham Lincoln."Specifically, it celebrates the discoveries and life of Charles Darwin -- the man who first described biological evolution via natural selection with scientific rigor," reads the site that lists more than 400 celebratory events."More generally, Darwin Day expresses gratitude for the enormous benefits that scientific knowledge, acquired through human curiosity and ingenuity, has contributed to the advancement of humanity."Darwin Day events circle the globe, and there is a series of them in Northwest Indiana starting this weekend at the First Unitarian Church in Hobart. On Saturday, Prof.
