| Man trapped in grain bin dies
Emergency personnel tried to rescue a Tonica man trapped in a Utica soybean bin Friday morning but were unable to save his life. Harold Paul Beenenga, 56, was working at Utica Elevator and helping load a semi when the accident occurred around 9 a.m. It remained unclear how Beenenga became trapped. However, Utica police chief Joe Bernardoni said Beenenga and co-worker Jerry Carey had portable radios and had been communicating back and forth, but lost contact while Beenenga was in the bin, approximately 10 feet off the ground by Bernardoni's estimate. Workers called into the bin trying to get a response from Beenenga, but there was no reply or sign of life. .
Victoria Election Poll Vault Weblog
Meanwhile, Mr Tully's defended the sexy, new, electronic tally board that few people in the tally room could actually read last night. (ABC Radio's Jon Faine was sitting behind the mic with binoculars while hosting the election coverage!) "It's easier to read than the old wooden tally boards - all you need to do is get up close," Mr Tully said. "And there are no other problems of people gripping on by their teeth at the top of the scaffolding." Get up close, hey? The Poll Vault team woke up suffering from very sore necks this morning. .
Righetti, St. Joseph hoops open at home
Basketball fans of the Santa Maria Valley won't have to venture far for first-round CIF Southern Section playoff action this coming week, as both Righetti High and St. Joseph scored first-round home games for each of their boys and girls basketball teams. The highest seed of the bunch, Ron Barba's St. Joseph girls, take their No. 4 ranking into the Division II-A playoffs on Thursday night against Glendora, the No. 3 entry from the Sierra League. Tipoff at Hofschulte Gym is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live by the Santa Maria Times and Lompoc Record on the Times' web site at www.santamariatimes.com. At the same time across the street, Righetti's girls open Division III-AA action as the No. 13 seed with a home game against Torrance, with the winner facing a second-round road trip Saturday to No.
Terrorist's case shows Yemen's flexible justice
Jaber Elbaneh has been one of the FBI's most-wanted terrorist suspects ever since he escaped from a high-security prison two years ago in Sana, the capital of Yemen. So when Elbaneh, a 41-year-old American citizen, walked freely into a Yemeni courthouse where his conviction was being appealed Feb. 23 , the judge and the prosecutor were stunned. They asked him to show identification, which he did. Then the broad-shouldered, bearded convict - who is accused by American prosecutors of providing support to Al Qaeda - surprised them again: He gave a speech. "I've been sentenced to 10 years in this case, and three years in another," he said. "But it's wrong; I haven't committed any crimes in this country or the United States." He added that after his prison escape he surrendered directly to Yemen's president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, who absolved him of any more jail time.

Internet Does Linking to Copyrighted Material Infringe? Warner Says ...
Warner Bros. Records files suit against music search engine, SeeqPod for infringement of copyrighted material Warner Bros. Records announced on Friday that it has filed suit against music streaming search engine, SeeqPod. According to Ars Technica, the media giant claims that the search engine, though it does not host any of its available files, infringes on the copyrighted works of intellectual property owners. SeeqPod defends itself, using the DMCA's "safe harbor" provision to protect it from lawsuits. Under the provision, companies that only link intellectual property, and not host them, are protected from lawsuits. The provision was meant to defend search engines that link to illegal websites, so long as the web service does not hand select certain material that can be linked. Only as long as the service automatically links without specifically selecting the recipients of the material or the material itself, is it protected under the provision.
The 12th Word at A&M
While it is true that his father donated a large sum of money, George Bush never attended Texas A&M. (Even his daughter Jenna attended UT.) And sadly, you seemed to blame your soldiers just because of their association with TAMU. That to me, is ignorance. Before you accuse me of being another conservative Aggie, it's important to know that I've always been liberal in thought and lived in Austin for the majority of my life. But I respect and admire my fellow Aggies too much to allow someone to degrade or insult them. We will always have something that the University of Texas will never have, and that is a sense of pride and family that bonds us together. .
Danish Court Tells ISP To Block PirateBay
I'm a Dane, and I can tell you that 90% of the population can choose between 3 or more ISP's. The problem is that the other ISP's tend to follow (don't ask me why) like they did with allofmp3.com and mp3sparks.com. You can say what you want about allofmp3, TPB and how useless a DNS block is, but it's a very slippery slope. This is pretty much as pure censorship as it gets (which is forbidden in the danish "Grundloven" just like in the US Constitution), and if it's allowed to continue there is no telling where it will end. Pumpkin's dad arrested in US
His acquaintances tipped off local authorities after seeing news reports about Xue. "He was arrested in Atlanta,'' Tom Hession, head of the Los Angeles US Marshals, said. "The arrest was based on the news reports and the internet and America's Most Wanted,'' Hession said. "He was either associated with, or staying with some folks, who realised he was wanted and they called authorities.'' The website for the America's Most Wanted television program says Xue was caught after Chinese-American locals recognised him. "According to police, Xue was at an apartment complex when a number of residents noticed him and a fight broke out," the website says. Xue 'hogtied' "Local authorities got wind of the incident and arrived on the scene only to find the suspected murderer hogtied and detained by a number of men." Hession said authorities hoped to be able to deport Xue back to New Zealand soon.
A walk down the Yellow Brick Road of Malaysia's Corridor of the future
We are now three days away from the big day for Malaysia's General Election. I've been watching the electronic press and the blogs this last week to see how much of an influence the "E" factor is going to play in this election as far as disseminating of information, spreading gossip, mobilizing people and, of course, campaigning for votes goes. I've also attended a couple of ceramahs just to see how quickly the news/info gets disseminated onto YouTube, and how much of a part YouTube is playing in terms of getting information or messages across. Dear Prime Minister... One big "E" splash that was made during campaigning last week was the launch of the Prime Minister's feedback Web site called warkahuntukpm.com.my, which was launched March 1 with much press and publicity. The concept behind warkahuntukpm.com.my is this: Write to the PM and tell him your issues, and he'll look into the matter.
